KadakanChi Adi Narayana Swami

About Andhra Kanchi
LUCKY OMEN: The golden lizard carving in Kodakanchi temple in Jinnaram mandal of Medak district. Sangareddy: The two lizard carvings on the arch of sanctum sanctorum of the Adi Narayana Swami temple in Kodakanchi of Jinnaram mandal resemble the ones in the famous Kanchi temple of Tamil Nadu. The 700-year-old temple on the banks of the Gandikunta chervu is named after the Kanchi temple, which is also known for its Golden Lizard. There is an age-old belief that if a lizard falls on specific spots of the human body it brings bad luck. The remedy is to touch someone who had touched the golden lizard of Kanchi or to visit Kanchi! Many people are unaware of Kodakanchi, which is just 20 km from Patancheru. The presiding deity of the temple is Adinarayana Swami along with Bhu Devi and Neela Devi. The main structure also houses the Alwars on the right side.

History of Andhra Kanchi
Gala time for thieves Legend has it that villagers in the vicinity of the boulder where the temple is now located, had a dream in which an eagle guided them to the spot where the idol was later found. Some say that it was a snake. The villagers cleared the shrubs and found the remains of a splendid temple along with its idols. This happened few decades ago, but nothing much was done to restore its glory. Frequent thefts had their toll. The main idols and ornaments are gone. Modernisation attempts by some donors have also robbed the temple of its original architecture. The black stone pillars, the Sthupas and the rest houses gave away to one large concrete Mandapam in which weekly Satyanarayana Vratams are held. The bigger picture The annual Jatara that takes place a fortnight ahead of Sivaratri is the only time when the Kodakanchi village witnesses large crowds. The village has many structures which hints at the existence of a much bigger structure spread over hundreds of acres centuries ago.
